At Brightside Early Learning Centre, our programs are thoughtfully designed to support children from 6 weeks to 6 years through each stage of their early learning journey.

Learning Through Play

Children learn about themselves and the world around them through exploration, discovery and play.

Our play-based approach gives children opportunities to investigate ideas, experiment with materials, use their imagination, solve problems and learn alongside others.

Educators intentionally extend these moments through conversations, questions, resources and new experiences, creating a balance between child-led exploration and purposeful teaching.

Learning might begin with painting, building, gardening, sensory play, storytelling or an interest discovered outdoors – and develop into opportunities for creativity, communication, early literacy and numeracy, scientific thinking and problem-solving.

Tailored to the Individual Child

Every child brings different interests, experiences, abilities and ideas into their learning.

Our educators use observations, interactions with children and communication with families to inform educational planning and identify meaningful opportunities to extend each child's development.

Rather than expecting every child to engage with learning in the same way, experiences can evolve in response to what children are discovering.

An interest in insects might develop into an investigation of habitats and the natural world. Building with blocks can introduce concepts of balance, measurement and problem-solving. Creative experiences can lead children to explore colour, texture, movement and self-expression.

This responsive approach keeps learning relevant to the children participating in it.

Creativity in early childhood is about much more than producing a finished piece of artwork.

Children at Brightside are provided with open-ended opportunities to paint, draw, construct, create, experiment and engage in sensory and messy play.

These experiences allow children to make their own choices, test ideas and discover what different materials can do.

By valuing the process of exploration, children have the freedom to develop their imagination, confidence and individual ways of expressing themselves.

Building Independence & Confidence

Throughout each stage of our program, children are encouraged to become active participants in their own learning and everyday routines.

Age-appropriate opportunities to make choices, care for belongings, contribute to their environment, attempt new challenges and solve problems help children recognise themselves as capable learners.

Educators provide guidance and encouragement while allowing children the time and space to try things for themselves.

These everyday experiences gradually build independence, persistence and confidence.
